Tłıchǫ All Season Road and Community Meetings!

The Tłıc̨ hǫ All Season Road is getting closer day by day! TIC has a small team visiting the communities holding information sessions for the TASR and other business requirements in order to help the recruiting process. Meetings in Behchokǫ on Monday, May 14th, and Whatì on Wednesday, May 16th are already scheduled, and are just the start. We expect to have sessions in Gamèti and Wekweètì in June. These sessions will occur periodically in all the communities, so we can discuss preparation for employment, training, and apprenticeship opportunities. The TIC team is excited to share everything we can about the project in front of us. Personally, I can’t wait to get out to the communities and talk about these exciting plans!

Meanwhile, the TASR continues to progress with the road construction team at TIC working with the three proponents, as their final bids to the GNWT are due in August. We meet with each proponent at least once every other week, and those meetings are getting longer and more involved. This is a time to maximize the opportunity for local jobs for the Tłıc̨ hǫ people, in the short-term and long-term.

Please come out to the meetings, gather as much information and ask all questions that you have. And don’t worry, if you miss these first two meetings, there will be more in the upcoming months!

Land Transportation

Many of you may wonder what kind of business Ventures West and Tlicho Land Trans do during other parts of the year, not associated with Winter Road. During this time of year, we have several customers requiring fertilizer haulage, calcium haul and spray, LNG hauling, and aircraft fuel transport in support of forest fire fighting efforts. There are also many efforts in preparing for fuel and freight pre-hauls to Yellowknife.

This is also an important time of the year to pursue new business, and with a rebounding Alberta economy, the time is right to get the wheels turning more frequently. After some changes within the management team of the land transportation business unit, we are looking forward to a brighter future! I will be spending more time helping that team achieve success and assisting their further integration into TIC.

Canada Mining Institute Conference

I had the privilege to be able to speak at the CMI Annual Conference in Vancouver early in May. It was a chance for me to give background information on how mining has helped the growth of the Tłıc̨ hǫ Investment Corporation and the communities. It was a great time to spread the word of our organization and help

work on business growth.

These opportunities are very important to our businesses as we grow and diversify organically and geographically. We want people across the country to know who the Tłıc̨ hǫ people are and what TIC is. If everyone of these type of meetings opens the door to one business opportunity, it is well worth it!

Ongoing Business

The entire business is beginning preparation for the Gathering in July. This will be my first, so I am very excited to be a part. I have heard many things! We are currently going through the audit process finalizing the results and making sure nothing is missed.

Initiatives in many areas are being completed. Old equipment assets are being scrapped or sold, and all the yards and equipment have plans developed. The Nishi Kohn yard and the equipment are being managed by Aboriginal Engineering Limited, to ensure all assets are in good condition when they are needed, especially at winter road time.

We are working with customers on several different business opportunities, all in hopes to get more people hired and working. We are working on contracts, terms, and other potential with customers and vendors to help improve our financial position.

Our HR teams in Yellowknife and Fort Saskatchewan are working on projects to improve the recruiting for winter road construction, maintenance, and haulage activities. It is important for our future.

As always,if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or my team.
