Boiler Operator (TCL – Diavik)


As part of the overall Electrical Team and reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, you will work with the Electrical Department to ensure that water management objectives are met in a safe, timely and efficient manner. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Operate and maintain boiler systems to ensure safe and efficient functioning, including monitoring and adjusting pressure, temperature, and fuel supply.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on boilers, pumps, and related equipment to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
  • Troubleshoot and address mechanical issues with boilers and other steam-producing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of operational data, maintenance activities, and any issues or repairs.
  • Ensure proper water treatment and chemical levels are maintained within the boiler system.
  • Work closely with maintenance teams to identify and resolve any mechanical or electrical issues affecting the boiler systems.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following emergency procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs.
  • Participate in safety training, equipment training, and other professional development activities as required.
     

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • 3rd Class Power/Operating Engineer certification in the NWT
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating and maintaining boilers, preferably in an industrial or mining environment.
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with multi-disciplined work force (trades, leads, etc.)
  • Knowledge of safety standards, environmental regulations, and operational procedures related to boiler operation.
  • Experience working in Arctic conditions

The position requires a person with proven ability to work in a cross cultural, diverse environment demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity.  The ability to speak the Tłı̨chǫ Language is considered an asset.

This is 1-year term position working on a rotational schedule of 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off in a remote camp site setting; 12-hour shifts.

This position will require security and medical clearances for the remote camp site.
