We are currently seeking a professional and experienced individual to join our team as a Construction Superintendent.
Scope
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the incumbent is responsible for supervising and coordinating all construction activities at the construction site. This entails leading a team of carpenters, labourers, subtrades, delegating tasks, and ensuring that work is performed in accordance with established quality standards and project specifications. Safety is paramount, and the Construction Superintendent is tasked with enforcing safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment. Effective communication with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders is essential to ensure smooth operations.
Additionally, the incumbent is expected to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise during construction work, including material shortages or scheduling conflicts. Providing guidance, training, and mentorship to team members is crucial for skill development and maintaining productivity. Resource management, including coordinating materials, equipment, and manpower, is also within the Construction Superintendent's purview. Documentation of work progress, materials usage, and incidents is necessary for project tracking and accountability. Ultimately, the incumbent plays a vital role in ensuring that construction tasks are completed on time and within budgetary constraints.
Responsibilities:
1. Project Construction Duties:
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints.
• Conduct daily safety meeting with the crew. Work with safety manager to ensure all project site safety requirements are met.
• Ensure materials are on site for planned work activities. Perform quantity takeoffs from the IFC drawings and prepare material lists for the project manager.
• Ensure materials delivered to site are undamaged and verified against the shipping manifest.
• Work with equipment manager to ensure jobsite equipment is running smoothly, call for maintenance as required.
• On-call for after hours emergencies.
• Operate vehicles and equipment (pickup trucks, telehandler, manlift, frost fighters)
• Work along side the crew as needed.
• Manage team’s task assignment, scheduling and performance monitoring.
• Be the liaison between the field workers and management.
• Solve disputes between workers.
• Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials usage, and any incidents or accidents.
• Uphold company policies, procedures, and values in all aspects of work, and as amended by management.
2. General Office/Administrative Duties
• Answer phone calls from project managers, inspectors, subtrades, etc.
• Submit employee timecards to the Project Manager for approval.
• Submit daily field reports to the Project Manager at the end of each shift.
• Prepare and Submit RFI’s to the Project Manager as needed.
• Review Shop Drawings upon request.
• Read and respond to emails.
• Other general administrative duties as directed by the Project Manager.
Requirements:
• Journeyman Carpenter Certification with minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
• In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OSH guidelines.
• Understanding of construction, plumbing and electrical work procedures.
• Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints.
• First Aid Training Certificate
• WSCC Supervisory Certificate
• Elevating Work Platforms Training Certificate
• Fall Protection Training Certificate
This position requires an individual with a proven ability to work in a cross cultural, diverse environment demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity. The position is project and hourly based.
