Environmental Assistant – Ekati Mine Site (TMS)

Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation is seeking a Environmental Assistant to support environmental work at the Ekati Diamond Mine. Working a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation, you’ll report to the Environment Team Leader, and play an important role in environmental protection and monitoring.

This role is focused mainly on fieldwork, contributing to programs related to:

  • Environmental compliance
  • Fisheries and aquatic health
  • Air quality monitoring
  • Wildlife and habitat monitoring
  • Reclamation planning and activities

You’ll also provide support with office and lab tasks and help maintain field equipment. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a variety of environmental programs in a northern mining setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow Safety Procedures:
    • Read and follow all relevant work instructions. Take part in group job hazard assessments, daily safety meetings, and complete your Personal Safety Card each day.
  • Support Environmental Fieldwork
    • Help carry out daily environmental sampling and monitoring as part of key programs, including:
      • Surveillance Network Program (SNP)
      • Wildlife Effects Monitoring Program (WEMP)
      • Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program (AEMP)
  • Work with Specialists & Consultants:
    • Assist with various tasks such as:
      • Measuring water levels and flow at hydrometric stations
      • Inspecting pumps and collecting water samples
      • Monitoring wildlife and recording observations
      • Gathering air quality data
  • Assist with Office & Lab Work:
    • Prepare and ship sampling bottles
    • Organize and file field data sheets
    • Perform quality control checks on data
    • Review wildlife camera footage
    • Help with compliance reporting
  • Prepare and Maintain Equipment:
    • Calibrate monitoring tools
    • Check gear against equipment lists
    • Perform small repairs as needed
  • Assist with remote field work, often under challenging weather conditions
  • Be comfortable working out of a boat and traveling by helicopter

This position will require security and medical clearances for the remote camp site.
