We completed painting Unit 229 in Edzo and moved on to the Health Centre in Behchokǫ̀ . Our crew, including summer students, also worked on a 6-plex.
Up until August 24, we had the help of seven dedicated summer students working with us on these painting projects.
As we are all very busy and our businesses/jobs are spread throughout the Tłı̨chǫ region, I have seen an increase in our employees traveling the highway to their work locations for one reason or another. The highway construction this year has created lots of delays, and large sections of loose gravel. With the increase in travel with summer holidays and camping the traffic has increased with some drivers not as patient as others causing everyone to all drive very defensively.
With the hot days this past weekend, we would like to be proactive and providing you all some information on heat stress prevention. As spring turns into summer and brings on hot weather, we should all be aware of some tips to prevent heat stress. Remember, physical activity at high temperatures can directly affect health and indirectly be the cause of accidents.
A we all know our hands are a very important part of our body mechanics as they help do the work, we do so protect them at all times. Watch Your Hands!
These students are doing great work and are well into Week 2 of the Heavy Equipment Operators Program sponsored by Tłı̨chǫ Government, with Aurora College instruction and certification, facilitated by Tłı̨chǫ Engineering and Environmental on the road project underway near Whatì. Human Resources and Communications staff paid a visit to their training site and got to see working the machines with their new skills. Here they are in action:
As we all do our jobs day in and day out everything we do becomes routine, this is when complacency sets into our daily work place. We all must remember that each day brings us a new challenge which in turn brings new risks that have to be addressed to remain safe on the job or at home. We must stay alert each day and address the risks in a timely matter in order to remain safe and productive.
