TPM working hard

Uncovering the great work done by Tłı̨chǫ Property Management (TPM) crew members all year long. They have gotten the duplex in Behchokǫ̀ ready to turn over to Tłı̨chǫ Government (TG)! The ongoing infrastructure projects TPM completes for TG are helping build our Tłı̨chǫ communities by providing TG with housing options. In turn, this makes our communities even better places to live!

Challenge Accepted (TEES is still ahead of schedule!)

As climate change disrupts traditional freeze cycles, the work to build and maintain winter roads has never been more complex. Extreme temperature shifts lengthen freeze periods prolonging portage construction, while simultaneously creating the potential for extreme ice conditions such as thermal expansion which can create pressure ridges or thermal shock which creates deep cracking weakening the ice posing critical safety concerns. Delays in freezing and earlier thaws mean construction teams must work faster and smarter.

Teamwork is essential!

Teamwork is essential! Here’s how our project managers and teams approach building the Tlicho Winter Road with a short construction season that makes all the timelines more urgent! Tlicho Engineering and Environmental Services (TEES) ensures all the necessary work is done safely, efficiently, and with environmental protections built in:

1. Route Selection and Planning:

o Routes are chosen based on traditional knowledge, environmental assessments, and logistical considerations to minimize risks and maximize accessibility.

2. Ice Profiling and Preparation:

Another Successful Tłı̨chǫ Night!

Another Successful Tłı̨chǫ Night!

Together the Tłı̨chǫ Goverment and Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation hosted their second Tłı̨chǫ Night at the AME Roundup in Vancouver, BC.

Masì Cho to our sponsors, organizers, drummers, elders, and those in industry and governments who attended to network, share in our Tłı̨chǫ culture, and explore possibilities for work together in our region!

Kudo's to our winter crew!

Kudo's to our winter crew!

Kudos to our winter road crews for their dedication while building this vital lifeline in the always-challenging conditions. Their efforts to prioritize safety and operational excellence ensure the continued success of this essential infrastructure- The GNWT inspection report commends the high standards of care demonstrated for the environment this season!

Ice Profiling in Action

Ice Profiling in Action

The Winter Road linking Tlicho communities is an engineering feat requiring months of detailed planning and teamwork to construct. A critical aspect of constructing safely is how Tlicho Engineering & Environmental Service (TEES) works on the ice. TEES has begun using ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology to give them precise, real-time data to determine ice thickness and integrity -- to millimeters – to protect crew safety and operate at maximum efficiency to open the road as early as possible.

Tłı̨chǫ Connection

Tłı̨chǫ Connection

The Tłı̨chǫ Winter Road is more than a pathway; it’s a symbol of connection and opportunity. For families, it means access to essentials. For businesses, it supports economic activity. And for the community, it reinforces resilience and self-reliance.

Progress on the Winter Road

Our crews are making remarkable progress on the Gamètì North and South sections. Wekweèti crews are gaining traction and it’s coming together beautifully!

The road remains closed and not yet ready for travel, when everyone stays off the alignment it helps to keep everyone involved safe the construction on schedule.
